Transport and Map of Bajo Miño
How to get to the Miño River
The closest airport to the banks of the Miño River is Vigo Airport, about 25 km from Tuy. If you want to connect with urban transport, you would need to go to Vigo and take a bus from there. However, the connection by car, transfer, or taxi is very quick.
The other option is Porto Airport, which has more connections and is about 110 km from Valença do Minho. The Autna company connects the airport directly to the city.
From Vigo, you can travel to Tui or Valença do Minho with Autna. You can also travel to A Guarda with Atsa. On the Portuguese side, Rede Espresso connects Valença do Minho with Vilanova de Cerveira and Caminha.
You can get to Tui by train from Madrid or Vigo. The station is Guillarei, about a 10-minute walk from the old town.
It is also possible to reach Caminha-Valença do Minho from Porto. The route has other stops, but the journey from Vila Praia de Áncora to Valença is particularly HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Miño River in the background.
It is important to note that there are several bridges crossing the Miño River in its final stretch. From inland towards the mouth: the bridge connecting Monçao with Salvaterra do Miño, the two bridges connecting Valença do Minho with Tui, and the bridge connecting Vilanova de Cerveira with Goián.
The most important of these bridges is the one on the Spanish A-55 motorway, which continues on the Portuguese A3.
Finally, it is possible to cross from Caminha to A Guardia by boat, and vice versa. It is actually a ferry, which means you can cross with your own vehicle. In this case, it is important to pay attention to the timetables, as they are not always the same, but depend on the tides.
