Camino Portugues por la Costa y Variante espiritual
Coastal Path, Spiritual Variant
We dream of walking the Camino de Santiago, but we are often afraid of getting lost in the throngs, metropolitan stages, or logistical solitude when travelling from afar. The Spiritual Variant of the Camino de Santiago is the solution: a path designed to provide unspoiled beauty, deep connection, and, most importantly, the security of having local support and feeling cared for. This is the route for individuals who want to go on a solitary journey but with someone. It appears paradoxical, yet it is not. Are you reading this?

The Spiritual Variant is more than just a path; it is the source of all Ways. Its credibility stems from the fact that it recreates the famous Traslatio, the sea and river voyage conducted by the Apostle James’ remains from Palestine to Galicia in 44 A.D. Walking this stretch and sailing across the Ría de Arousa and Ulla River connects pilgrims to the Jacobean heritage, providing a unique historical and spiritual experience.

Plan your journey without stress

The Coastal Way, along with the start of the Spiritual Variant at Pontevedra, provides a unique and enriched experience. With this version, we achieve authenticity and safety while also avoiding more populated areas and ensuring your arrival for the Pilgrims’ Mass.

Variante Espiritual

Spiritual Variant:
A transformational experience.

This path is healing for both the spirit and the mind. By avoiding urban areas, the immersion in nature is increased, which is aided by the proximity to the sea, transforming the walk into a true active meditation.

•Connection with nature: You will stroll through the dense foliage of the ‘Ruta da Pedra e da Auga’ section and enjoy the peacefulness of the estuary, occasionally hearing just the sound of water crashing against the rocks. This encourages mental separation and clarity.

•Growth and Well-being: The tranquil landscapes and meditative rhythm of the river voyage urge you to reflect. Many pilgrims chose it because it promotes self-awareness and a profound sense of personal regeneration.

Safety and local support: The peace of mind of feeling supported on the Camino.

Welcome and help when you arrive

Arrival is the most unpredictable time for a long-distance traveller. This service is meant to take the stress out of the transfer and guarantee that you arrive at Monte Santa Tecla (A Guarda) feeling comfortable, safe, and supported from the moment you set foot on Galician soil.

How does the Spiritual Variant handle welcome and first support?

Pick-up Points: The escort service is available at the main arrival points: Vigo Airport (VGO), Santiago Airport (SCQ), and the local train/bus station.

•PRIOR COORDINATION: Before your journey, you and your local guide agree on the exact time you will arrive. He or she will wait for you with proper identification at the agreed-upon location.

•TRANSFER: The transfer is made straight to your hotel in A Guarda, assuring a simple process and eliminating the need to hunt for taxis, transports, or cope with language barriers.

•ORIENTATION: During the ride, the guide provides a brief orientation about the route, predicted weather, and details of the first stage, transforming the transfer into an educational and reassuring experience.

A significant transfer.

This private transfer is a deliberate decision for your route. It is intended to minimise the most urban and industrial sections of the Coastal Way as it passes through Vigo, allowing your experience to focus solely on the coastal and rural scenery, as well as the peacefulness of the Spiritual Variant. Nonetheless, walking at least the required distance to receive the Compostela.
